Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Expectation and reality do not always coincide. As we begin Advent we will recap the expectations of the people of Israel in regard to their Messiah and salvation. They were not expecting the King of the Universe to be born homeless. Looking forward…they were not expecting the scandal of the cross.

The reality is much more down to earth, much more comforting…God is with us. May we discover Him in our daily lives.

Have a good week,

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We end our year with the Feast of Christ the King. The whole purpose of Jesus coming among us is to enable us to be co-founder and co-inhabitants of a new kingdom: a kingdom of justice and peace, a kingdom of holiness and joy. Each one of us must make the kingdom come. How? By doing God’s will here on earth. We must learn to become brothers and sisters; in Christ there is no Greek, no Jew, no male, no female. He calls each one by name; let us try to see in one another the person, rather than the rôle. We are co-workers, more than members of a hierarchy. In our baptism we were baptised as sharers in the priest hood, the prophetic rôle and the Kingship of Christ.

Have a good week,

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As we come near to the end of the liturgical year, the gospel focuses our thoughts on the meanings of our life. Looking at life with the eyes of Jesus Christ, it is up to us to discover in prayer and in faith the path in life we are to take. God has created us for some particular purpose. May we discuss that purpose and produce our fruit….sometimes 30 fold, sometimes 60, sometimes 100 fold.

Have a good week,
Fr. Richard

It may seem odd to celebrate the dedication of buildings even though they be places of worship. Building’s often express the confidence of those who erect them. It is a dedicated and committed community that can erect buildings the size of Cathedrals. In external form the depths of a communities faith and confidence is on show.

Let us rejoice at the maturity of the Christian church and its continuing influence in the lives of many. May our little church of St. Peter’s also express our love and commitment to our faith in the place where we are.

Have a good week,
Fr. Richard
